Mild Steel Electrodes

INDIAKING

AWS/SFA 5.1: E6013 IS 814: ERR4121

A general-purpose, heavy rutile (high titania) coated mild steel electrode features a stable, soft arc with easy re-striking, low spatter, and self-detaching slag. Produces smooth welds with fine, uniform ripples and medium-to-shallow penetration. Suitable for AC and DC (DCEP/DCEN) power sources. Well-suited for poor fit-up conditions and thin-gauge steel work.

Welding procedure & parameters

Clean base metal of oil, rust, and scale. Use short-to-medium arc length. Suitable for flat (FW), horizontal (HF), vertical (VD), and overhead (OH) positions. Current: AC or DC±. Typical amperages: 2.5mm: 60–80A; 3.15mm: 90–120A; 4.0mm: 130–160A; 5.0mm: 170–220A.

Typical applications

General fabrication and structural welding of mild and low-carbon steel. Suitable for sheet metal, light steel structures, machine frames, storage tanks, agricultural equipment, automobile bodies, furniture, fencing, and maintenance & repair welding. Ideal for workshop and site welding where ease of operation and bead appearance are priorities.

Storage & handling notes

No special storage precautions required. Not a low-hydrogen type — not recommended for highly restrained joints or high-sulphur/high-carbon steels without adequate preheating. Keep electrodes dry to avoid moisture pick-up.
