Gouging & Cutting Electrodes
SUPERLINK GOUGE
A special electrode designed for the gouging (back-gouging), grooving, and removal of defective weld metal. Produces a smooth, U-shaped groove with clean edges and minimal spatter. Can gouge all metals weldable by SMAW including mild steel, stainless, cast iron. Does not require special equipment beyond a standard DC welding machine.
Technical specifications
Consumable flux-coated type — no conventional weld deposit composition applicable
| Notes | Groove characteristics: smooth U-profile groove, clean metal surface ready for re-welding without additional grinding in most cases |

| 4.0mm | 200–280A |
| 5.0mm | 300–380A |
Welding procedure & parameters
DC+ (DCEP). High current — use maximum recommended amperage for electrode diameter. Drag electrode along surface at approximately 45° angle. Typical amperages: 3.15mm: 150–200A; 4.0mm: 200–280A; 5.0mm: 300–380A.
Typical applications
Back-gouging of weld roots for full penetration double-sided welds. Removal of defective weld metal, cracks, or porosity. Groove preparation on cast iron and steel. Removal of weld reinforcement. Competitive with carbon arc gouging for smaller workshops without air compressors.
Storage & handling notes
Not for structural welding — gouging/preparation use only. Ensure adequate ventilation. PPE required. Some cleaning (grinding) of gouge face may be required before re-welding.
