SAW Wires

SUPERLINK SW-5

AWS A5.17: EG / Low-Alloy SAW Wire equivalent (equivalent)

A copper-coated solid submerged arc welding (SAW) wire for single and multi-pass SMAW (SAW process). Designed for use with appropriate SAW flux to achieve the target mechanical properties. Wire is precision wound on spools for consistent feeding in automatic/semi-automatic SAW equipment. Produces high deposition rates, deep penetration, and excellent weld quality with no arc flash or spatter.

Welding procedure & parameters

Submerged arc process. Pair with suitable SAW flux (neutral, active, or basic-type per application). DC+ or AC (per flux/application recommendation). Wire dia: typically 2.4, 3.2, 4.0mm. Voltage: 28–38V. Current: 400–1000A depending on dia and position.

Typical applications

SAW of high-strength and low-temperature structural steel. Offshore structures, LNG plant, pressure vessels, pipelines requiring sub-zero toughness. Use with suitable low-basicity flux.

Storage & handling notes

Mechanical properties are a function of the wire-flux combination — confirm final properties with the selected flux. Store wire on spools sealed from moisture. Flux must be dry and pre-baked as per manufacturer's recommendation.
