Medium & High Tensile Steel Electrodes

SUPERLINK 7018

AWS/SFA 5.1: E7018 IS 814: EB5326H2JX

An iron-powder, low-hydrogen, basic-coated electrode with approximately 115% weld metal recovery. Produces smooth, clean welds merging into base metal without undercut. Good gap-bridging properties. Very stable arc, compact slag, low spatter, and X-ray quality deposits. Suitable for all positions except vertical-down. Excellent toughness at sub-zero temperatures.

Welding procedure & parameters

AC or DC+ (DCEP). All positions except vertical-down. Re-dry at 250°C–300°C/2 hrs before use. Short arc length. Preheat per base metal requirements. Typical amperages: 2.5mm: 65–90A; 3.15mm: 95–130A; 4.0mm: 140–175A; 5.0mm: 185–230A.

Typical applications

Dynamically loaded steel structures, bridges, shipbuilding, pipelines, pressure vessels, tanks, boilers, machinery, offshore structures. Suitable for buffer layers on higher-carbon steels before hardfacing. X-ray quality fabrication welding across a wide range of high-tensile steels.

Storage & handling notes

Low-hydrogen type: re-dry at 250°C–300°C for 2 hours. Diffusible hydrogen: ≤10 ml/100g. Must be stored in sealed containers or holding oven after opening to prevent moisture absorption.
